Whaler and pioneer Carl Anton Larsen was first the manager of a whaling station in Mafjord in Finnmark. He was then sent to the Southern Ocean by Christen Christensen to survey the seals and whale populations in 1892-1894. Carl Anton Larsen was the first to land on the mainland Antarctic Peninsula. In 1893-1895, Norway's Henrik Johan Bull went on expeditions with the ship "Antarctic" to find out how many whales and seals there were in the Ross Sea. On January 24, 1895, the Antarctic expedition of 1893-1895 made the first landing on the mainland of Antarctica at Cape Adare. First Officer Roald Amundsen in addition to 5 other Norwegians were on the Belgica expedition in 1897-1899. Belgium was not a polar nation, but brought 6 Norwegians with them on the former Norwegian ship "Patria" which was sold and named "Belgica". There were 8 Belgians on the expedition. Captain Carl Anton Larsen and 16 Norwegians joined the "Antarctic" on the expedition in 1901-1904 after the Antarctic was sold to Nordenskiold. On these expeditions, Carl Anton Larsen found that he wanted to open a land station in Grytvika on South Georgia. Grytvika was founded and taken into permanent possession and use by Carl Anton Larsen in 1904 after 12 years of planning and work. In 1905, an English royal family came to Norway. Then, English flags were hung on the Norwegian whaling station with Norwegian leaders and Norwegian workers who were controlled from Norway. Every time Norway had taken land into permanent possession and use, England said that the land was theirs. Betrayal. Norway took the South Shetland Islands and Cape Adare and the Framheim sector into permanent possession and use. Hjalmar-Riiser Larsen and Finn Lützow Holm planted the Norwegian flag on Enderby Land and annexed Enderby Land for Norway. Adolf Hoel submitted a claim to East Antarctica for Norway had taken the land into permanent possession and use for whaling and sealing.
